VIETNAMESE WOOD AND FURNITURE EXPORTS “EXPLODE” WITH IMPRESSIVE GROWTH

1347

Over the past decades, Vietnam has successfully built an image as a reliable furniture “manufacturing hub” for the world. With its enormous production scale, extensive export experience accumulated over the years, and especially its ability to fulfill large orders quickly, Vietnam has maintained an extremely important and solid position in the global supply chain, holding a favorable position to capture a significant market share internationally – particularly in the mid- and high-end segments.

According to Mr. Vu Ba Phu, Director of the Trade Promotion Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), by 2025, the wood industry will be one of Vietnam’s key export sectors. The export value of wood and wood products is projected to reach approximately US$17.2 billion in 2025. Ho Chi Minh City alone is expected to export over US$9 billion worth of furniture and related products. Overall, the wood export sector is maintaining an upward trend, rising from US$14.8 billion in 2021 to US$17.2 billion in 2025, and targeting US$19 billion in 2026. The 5.7% increase in 2025 and the US$19 billion target for 2026 reflect high expectations for the international market, especially for high-value-added processed wood products.

Currently, Vietnam ranks second in the world for furniture exports (after China), with products present in 166 countries and territories. In 2025, Vietnam’s wood and wood product exports are expected to experience strong growth in most key markets. The US continues to lead with a turnover of $9.4 billion, a 4.3% increase year-on-year, affirming its role as a key market. Vietnam remains the largest supplier of wooden furniture to the US market. Japan stands out with an impressive growth of 23.3%, reaching $2.15 billion, demonstrating the rapidly expanding demand for Vietnamese wood products there. Among other major markets, China increased by 3.5% to $2.08 billion, while Canada and the UK increased by 14.3% and 8.9% respectively, reflecting a successful market diversification trend. Regional markets such as Malaysia and Australia also maintained their growth momentum, reaching $167 million and $163 million respectively.

However, the wood industry is also facing many challenges. These include stringent standards on quality, traceability, and sustainable development from major markets such as the European Union (EU) and the US. Furthermore, there is pressure to accelerate the transition to green production and reduce emissions to adapt to the global trend of sustainable trade. Fluctuations in tariff policies, especially from the US, are directly impacting competitiveness. Increased geopolitical risks are destabilizing supply chains and driving up logistics costs.

Despite these challenges, the impressive achievement of Vietnam’s wood export turnover exceeding US$17 billion for the first time in 2025 demonstrates the adaptability of Vietnamese businesses in the industry, as well as the relatively solid production and supply chain foundation built in recent years. Vietnamese wood processing businesses have been proactively innovating and optimizing production and business processes; investing in advanced machinery and technology; managing the supply chain of legally sourced wood more strictly; and promoting digital transformation in management and trade promotion. Implementing green and energy-saving production solutions… It can be said that Vietnam is an ideal destination for importers of wood and furniture in general, and Singapore in particular. Good news for Singaporean businesses seeking business opportunities and reputable Vietnamese exporters: from September 3-5, 2026, the Vietnam International Sourcing 2026 (VIS) will be held at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC), 799 Nguyen Van Linh Street, Tan Phu Ward, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The fair will bring together over 600 Vietnamese manufacturers/exporters showcasing 12,000 export-eligible products in the following sectors: Food and Beverages; Household Goods; Lifestyle & Personal Care; and Export Supply Chain Exhibition. This is an annual fair organized under the direction of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (Department of Foreign Market Development) and organized by Adpex Joint Stock Company – a professional trade exhibition organizer in Vietnam. Participating entities include various industry associations. Vietnamese businesses, manufacturing and exporting companies, international retail and distribution corporations (including Acon, Amazon, Central Retail, Carrefour, Coppel, Decathlon, MegaMarket, Walmart, etc.), foreign companies supplying machinery, equipment, and raw materials for production in Vietnam, and supply chain service providers (including logistics, banking, and insurance companies).
